About Us…

We All Have Our Breaking Points

Welcome to Roaming Rostas, where we share our journey of early retirement and slow travel with the world! We’re Brian and Allison Rosta, a married duo who decided to trade the daily grind for a life of exploration, adventure, and connection. Alongside us is our loyal travel companion, Meyli, our spirited Shih Tzu who loves discovering new places as much as we do.

Why We Chose Early Retirement

Life is too short to spend it waiting for weekends or vacations. After years of working hard in our careers—Brian as an educator and Allison as a math teacher—we realized we wanted more time to embrace the things that truly bring us joy: travel, personal growth, and creating memories together. By carefully planning our finances and embracing a minimalist approach, we’ve made early retirement and long-term travel a reality.

Why We Started "Roaming Rostas"

We started Roaming Rostas to inspire and empower others to consider slow travel as a pathway to freedom. This blog is our way of sharing the ups and downs, tips and tricks, and lessons learned along the way. Whether you’re dreaming of retiring early, traveling more, or just living life on your terms, we hope our stories and insights encourage you to take the first step.

How We’d Like to Help You

Slow travel isn’t just about seeing new places—it’s about truly experiencing them. Through our blog, we want to:

  • Provide practical advice on budgeting, planning, and living abroad.

  • Highlight destinations that are perfect for long-term stays.

  • Offer guidance on overcoming challenges, from visas to healthcare.

  • Share honest reflections on how this lifestyle has transformed our lives.

We believe anyone can design a life that aligns with their passions and priorities, and we’re here to help you get started.

Our Passion for Travel

Travel has always been a cornerstone of our relationship. It’s not just about the places we visit—it’s about the people we meet, the cultures we learn from, and the personal growth that comes with stepping outside our comfort zone. From sipping tea in quiet mountain towns to navigating bustling city streets, we find beauty in every corner of the world. Travel has taught us to slow down, appreciate the moment, and embrace the unexpected.

A Little About Us

Brian has a background in education and leadership, while Allison brings her love of numbers, teaching, and creative thinking to the table. Together, we’ve navigated both life’s challenges and its joys, always supporting each other along the way. Meyli, our fluffy companion, adds a touch of adventure and mischief to our travels, proving that even the smallest adventurers can make a big impact.

Join Us on the Journey

Roaming Rostas is more than a blog—it’s a celebration of life, freedom, and the endless possibilities that come with saying “yes” to adventure. Whether you’re planning your own journey or just love exploring from the comfort of your home, we’re excited to have you along for the ride.

Here’s to living boldly, traveling slowly, and finding joy in every step. Let’s roam together!

The Words Shared by Our Wedding Celebrant - Chief Bill - on the Sands of Fiji…

We have been invited here today and to share with Allison and Brian a very important moment in their lives. In the years that they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured and now, they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife. Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created. In marriage, the little things are bigger things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say “I love you” at least one day. It knows when to say sorry. It is at no time taking the other for granted: the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years. It is having a mutual sense of values and common objective standing together facing the world. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy. It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating attitude in thoughtful ways. It is not looking for perfection in each other. It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget . It is giving each other space and atmosphere in which to grow. It is finding rooms for the things that nurture the spirit, it is a common search for the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which independence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal. It is not only marrying the right partner, but being the right partner.
